Matt Henderson - Senior Curator Horticulture
Matt applied for a role at Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne because the Australian Garden was somewhere he visited to learn and be inspired by horticulture using native species. He shares it's a space he's always aspired to work, so applying felt like a very natural decision.
Matts favourite things about working at the Gardens are working with what he's passionate about, being amongst nature and working with other passionate people.
He shares those hoping to join the Gardens team to work with plants should bring their passion with them and let it shine through. Matt adds this also applies to any part of the organisation, whether working directly with plants or not. It is very much a place of passionate people.

Please submit your application and statement addressing the key selection criteria (found in the position description on the Vic Gov Careers page) before the closing date. Receipt of your application will be acknowledged by automatic email.
If your application is shortlisted you will be invited to attend an interview at one of our sites (Melbourne or Cranbourne).
Some roles may require multiple interviews, phone-screening and/or practical assessment. RBGV will then seek to contact two references for the preferred candidate. Subject to the receipt of satisfactory references a verbal offer will be made.
Please note that some roles are subject to additional pre-employment checks including a police check and/or medical check.
If successful with your employment application, you will be required to enter into a contract which governs the terms and conditions of employment. All contracts include the standard period of probation.
We will contact all applicants regardless of the outcome, however this may take a few weeks so please bear with us.
Your application should include a copy of your current CV, as well as a statement addressing the Key Selection Criteria (KSC) for the job you are applying (the KSC can be found in the position description).
All RBGV employees must have the necessary working rights for their position. All employees require a current WWCC, with some roles requiring a police check and/or pre-employment medical as part of the onboarding process.
Unfortunately we are unable to facilitate work experience at this time. We hope to reintroduce this in the future, so please watch this space.
